Face Covering Exemption Card

The face covering exemption card is being distributed by Disability Equality Scotland on behalf of the Scottish Government.

The Scottish Government strongly recommend the wearing of face coverings on transport, most indoor public places and communal areas in workplaces. Face coverings play a role in preventing the transmission of COVID-19, however, there are reasons you may require a face covering exemption card.

No-one should face discrimination for not wearing a face covering, nor should you have to prove you are exempt. However, we recognise that some people may feel more comfortable showing something that says they do not have to wear a face covering.

This card is designed as a tool to support people who are exempt to feel more confident and safer when accessing spaces where face coverings are recommended. Before downloading an exemption card, please ensure that you are exempt from wearing a face covering for the reasons outlined on the face covering exemptions page .

Digital Face Covering Exemption Card

Before downloading a digital face covering exemption card, please confirm both statements below:

1) You have read and understood the Scottish Government guidance on face covering exemptions.
2) Yourself or the intended recipient of the card has an exemption as laid out in the Scottish Government guidance.

Please ensure to save the file to your device. Once you save the file from this page, you will find it in your device’s “Files”, “Downloads” or “Photos” folder to select and display. The digital cards are designed to fill your device’s screen when held landscape; you may need to manually change the orientation of the card if it does not do so automatically.

Printout Face Covering Exemption Card

You can also download a printable PDF version of the exemption card, which can be cut out and displayed on a lanyard.

Before downloading a printout face covering exemption card, please confirm both statements below:

2) Yourself or the intended recipient of the card has an exemption as laid out in the Scottish Government guidance.

If you do not have access to a printer,  you can access free or inexpensive printing services at your local library or Citizens Advice Bureaux.
